Editor’s Note:
It sounds like you already have your wireless network set up through your router. So basically if you have connected to the internet through a wireless connection with either your old laptop or desktop (however, I’m assuming you have an ethernet cable (oversized phone like lookin’ thing) plugged into the desktop, as most stock models do not come with wirelesss cards) the hard part is over. If the new laptop is running on either Windows 7 or Windows Vista, here are the steps.1. Go to the lower right hand part of the screen.2. Look for the icon that has a computer monitor or reception bars on it, should say “disconnected”, or “‘X’ number of networks available” (most likely just one in your case)3. Left click the icon, and look for the name of your network.4. Click your network, and click connect. 5. If your network is secured, enter your password6. Done, and you should be able to get online.A few notes:-If you are for some reason running Windows XP, the instructions SHOULD be mostly the same, but when they jumped from XP to Vista, a lot of OS interface locations changed. Do a search in the help section of your computer for “connect”, and one of the results should help you.-If your computer takes several minutes trying to connect, reset your router (unplug it from the outlet, plug back in, wait a couple seconds for lights to start flashing)-If you have issues with simple setup stuff like this on a computer, check the preloaded help section. You can usually find it by clicking the windows icon on the lower left hand side of your monitor, and looking for “help and support” on the window that pops up. Companies have been really upgrading their help software recently, and it’s usually very simple to understand.Hope this works.
